Wantagh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball and softball teams both took part in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk held at Jones beach on Sunday morning.

The teams were among over 50,000 participants that walked the five mile loop. The goal of the event was to raise $3,000,000 for breast cancer research. The men's basketball team, which set a team goal of $1,000, raised $1,200.

"This was a great experience for our players and the program because we always want to give back to the community anyway we can," said men's basketball head coach Kevin Spann.

"Many families and friends lose loved ones every day to breast cancer, and if we can help promote awareness and make a difference that's more fulfilling than we can accomplish on the basketball court."

For the softball team, it was the second year participating in the walk since head coach Lisa Jusino took over last summer.
