Skyline Conference Releases 2018 Spring Preseason Coaches Polls

New York, NY| Three of five St. Joseph's College (L.I.) spring sports teams finished in the top three of their respective Skyline Conference Spring 2018 Preseason Coaches Polls, which were released on Thursday. Faring best were baseball and women's lacrosse, who both placed second in their respective polls.

Baseball claimed the conference's regular-season title in 2017 with a 15-3 Skyline mark and a 24-12 overall record but finished third in the conference championship tournament. Head coach Rick Garrett, who guided the team to its first conference title since 2004 in 2016, returns for his fifth season and welcomes back senior Lou Doria, who hit nine homers and knocked in 42 runs last seaosn. 

Women's lacrosse posted a 7-1 Skyline record and finished second last season. After winning the previous two titles, the Golden Eagles were defeated by Farmingdale in the conference final last season.

Tying for third place in its poll was the men's lacrosse team, who accrued 25 total points and shared a spot with Mount St. Mary College. In 2017, the program's first-ever season, coach Tom Rotanz and the Golden Eagles posted a 7-6 record and just missed out on a playoff berth. 

With 42 points, the softball team was selected to finish in fourth place. Powering the offense and reprising her role behind the plate will be 2017 Skyline All-Conference First-Team selection Kristen Arbiter who hit .336 a year ago.

Rounding out the spring contingent was the men's tennis team--selected to finish seventh out of eight teams.
