Urizzo, Jones, and MacDonell Named Skyline Scholar-Athletes of the Year
New York, NY| Seniors Tyler Jones (men's volleyball), Erin MacDonnell (women's cross country) and Claire Urizzo (women's volleyball) all received Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in their respective sports on Tuesday, as announced on the conference's website.
A Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the first-team All-Conference performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the semester in which the student-athlete competes.
Jones, a therapeutic recreation major, was the Skyline's top setter with 9.16 assists-per-set and ranked 23rd in the nation in the category. He added 36 kills and finished second on the team with 30 service aces guiding his team to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
MacDonell, a biology major, finished second at the conference championship held at Purchase College, registering a time of 24:24.73 on the 6,000-meter course. She went on to win her individual race at the ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships to earn a spot on the All-ECAC Women's Team.
Urizzo, a child study major, finished second on the team in several statistical categories including total kills (198), kills-per-set (2.15), total digs (256) and digs-per-set (2.78). Additionally, the outside hitter finished third in service aces (32) and total blocks (27) and was tied for first in total points-per-set (2.7).
