Caruso, Hanscom and Young Named Skyline Scholar-Athletes of the Year
New York, NY| Senior Samantha Caruso (women's lacrosse), freshman Taylor Hanscom (women's tennis) and sophomore Jessica Young (women's volleyball) all received Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in their respective sports on Tuesday, as announced on the conference's website.
A Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the first-team All-Conference performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the semester in which the student-athlete competes.
Caruso garnered Skyline All-Conference First-Team honors for the first time in her career in 2019. She collected 26 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, one goal and three assists on the year. Caruso graduated in May with a degree in child study.
As a freshman, Hanscom led the Golden Eagles to their first-ever Skyline Conference championship and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Additionally, Hanscom, a nursing major, posted a 12-1 singles record and 9-6 doubles record and appeared on the Skyline All-Conference First-Team.
Young led SJC and finished second in the conference with 97 total blocks. She finished first on the team with a .262 hitting percentage and 2.14 kills-per-set and was second in total kills (237) and total points (302). The business administration major was a First-Team selection and helped the Golden Eagles reach the Skyline Conference championship game.
