Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Katelyn Chiasera – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Junior, Midfielder, Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge HS
Chiasera assisted on the game-winning goals in each of the Golden
Eagles' victories at the FDU-Florham Tournament over Ramapo (2-0)
and Rutgers-Camden (1-0)…compiled three shots on goal in the
two matches.
Women's Soccer Rookies of the Week
Kristen Hoar - Maritime
Sophomore, Goalie, Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East HS
Hoar registered 12 saves in her collegiate debut on Aug. 31 as
Maritime earned a 2-1 win over Thomas (ME)…compiled six
saves in each half.
Cristiana Votta – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Sophomore, East Islip, NY/East Islip HS
Votta recorded a pair of shutout victories as St. Joseph's-L.I.
opened its 2013 campaign with wins over Ramapo (2-0) and
Rutgers-Camden (1-0) at the FDU-Florham Tournament…notched
six saves on Sept. 1 against Rutgers-Camden and one save versus
Ramapo on Aug. 31.
Men's Soccer Players of the Week
Sean Lockwood – Mount Saint Mary
Senior, Midfielder, Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional HS
Lockwood registered three assists in Mount Saint Mary's 5-1
victory at Bard on Aug. 30…assisted on the game-winning goal
and added a shot in the match.
Angelo Viteritti – Farmingdale State
Senior, Goalie, Huntington, NY/John Glenn HS
Viteritti recorded six saves on Aug. 31 as Farmingdale State
earned a 2-0 season-opening win at Albertus Magnus…had four
saves in the opening half…marked his 10th career
shutout.
Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
David Melchor – Mount Saint Vincent
Freshman, Goalie, Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral HS
Melchor amassed eight saves - including four in each half
– as Mount Saint Vincent opened its season with a 2-0 victory
at CCNY on Aug. 31…marked the Dolphins' first shutout win
since the 2011 campaign.
Women's Volleyball Player of the Week
Helen Putriment – The Sage Colleges
Junior, Outside Hitter, Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville
HS
Putriment was named to the All-Tournament team at the Scranton
Invitational as she averaged 3.12 digs and 3.0 kills over 16
sets…amassed 18 kills and 20 digs on Aug. 31 in the Gators'
3-2 win over Mount Aloysius…notched 15 kills and 15 digs
versus Scranton on Aug. 31…compiled 48 kills, 50 digs, seven
aces and five blocks on the weekend.
Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Taylor Ahmed – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, Libero, Farmingville, NY/Sachem North HS
Ahmed amassed 32 digs over nine sets at the Texas Lutheran Tourney
(Aug. 30-31)…registered a match-high 15 digs versus Texas
Lutheran on Aug. 31 and her 11 digs against Concordia (TX) on Aug.
30 were also a game high…recorded four aces versus
Texas-Tyler on Aug. 30.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Brian Wersan – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Holbrook, NY/Sachem North HS
Wersan finished 13th overall at the Stony Brook Invitational on
Aug. 31 with a time of 19:53 on the 5,900-meter course…field
consisted of 50 runners and four Division I programs…his
time established a school course-record that had stood since
2008.
Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Nick Diaz – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge HS
Diaz placed 36th overall at the Stony Brook Invitational in a time
of 21:42 on Aug. 31…field consisted four Division I
programs…was the third SJC runner to cross the finish
line.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Brittany Guttieri – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Sophomore, Oakdale, NY/Connetquot HS
Guttieri placed 21st overall in a field of 68 runners on Aug. 31
at the Stony Brook Invitational with a time of 16:40.90 on the
4,100-meter course…established a school course-record that
was set in 2008…SJC competed against four Division I
programs.
Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Ashley Maresca – The Sage Colleges
Sophomore, Brant Lake, NY/North Warren Central HS
Competing at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational on Aug. 31, Maresca
placed 34th overall in a field of 143 runners with a time of 22:33
on the 5K course…was the second Gator to cross the finish
line…Sage finished eighth in the 12-team field.
