Cross Country Trio Highlights Skyline Weekly Award Winners

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly award winners late Monday night, and amongst the winners were seven St. Joseph’s College (L.I.) student-athletes. Headlining the Golden Eagle contingent was Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Samantha Maurice and Women’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week Shannon Kennedy.

Samantha Maurice (Sr.) – Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

For the first time in her career, senior Samantha Maurice was named Skyline Conference Runner of the Week following her third-place performance at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational on Saturday morning. Maurice’s 21:01.9 5k time in the women’s event was the best finish among Skyline Conference runners and helped propel the Golden Eagles to a first-place team finish.

Shannon Kennedy (Sr.) – Women’s Soccer Co-Rookie of the Year

Shannon Kennedy of the women’s soccer team received Co-Player of the Week honors for her performance on the field on Saturday afternoon. Kennedy scored her first two goals as a member of the Golden Eagles in the 36th and 39th minutes in a 5-0 rout of Maritime College.  

Ryan Haun (Fr.) – Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Freshman Ryan Haun was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, having won the honor in each week he’s competed so far this season. In Saturday morning’s Mount Saint Mary Invtiational, Haun earned his highest-placing finish of the season in third place, posting an 8k time of 29:16.2.

Erin MacDonell (So.) – Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week

For the third time this season, Erin MacDonell has been named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. The Sayville, NY native was one of six Golden Eagles to finish in the top 10 at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational on Saturday morning, posting a 21:39.2 5k time and claiming ninth place.

Jenna Beekman (Fr.) – Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Libero Jenna Beekman was honored as Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday for her strong defensive performances in three matches last week. In all three contests, Beekman registered a game-high in digs, with the highest total (15) coming in a 3-2 conference victory over Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday morning.

Heather Ferchland (Sr.) – Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

For the third time this season, middle hitter Heather Ferchland has been named to the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll. In three contests last week, the reigning conference Player of the Year averaged 3.7 kills and 1.3 blocks per set. The Selden, NY native collected a season-high 21 kills in a 3-2 win over Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday morning.

Victoria Panicola (Fr.) – Women’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll

Freshman Victoria Panicola of the women’s tennis team was named to the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll after her stellar performance in the team’s 8-1 victory against Pratt on Sunday afternoon. Panicola defeated was the victor in her No. 3 doubles, claiming an 8-1 victory. In her No. 6 singles match against Pratt she won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
