Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Mike Lombardi – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Senior, Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot HS
Competing at the CW Post Invitational on Sept. 15, Lombardi
finished 25th overall in a field of 167 competitors with a
school-record time of 27:52.75…placed ahead of several
Division I runners…SJC finished sixth out of 17 teams.
Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Brian Wersan – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Junior, Holbrook, NY/Sachem North HS
The first-year competitor placed 26th overall at the CW Post
Invitational in a time of 27:52.96…eclipsed the school
record and was the second SJC runner to cross the finish
line…the Golden Eagles finished sixth in the 17-team
field.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the
Week
Christine Cristobal – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Senior, Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills HS
Cristobal placed fifth overall in a field of 184 runners on Sept.
15 at the CW Post Invitational with a school-record time of
19:39.67 on the 5K course…was the top Division III runner
and finished ahead of multiple Division I competitors…SJC
placed fourth out of 20 teams.
Women's Tennis Rookies of the Week
Kelley McGrath – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Freshman, Nesconset, NY/Sachem North
McGrath won a pair of singles matches versus Hunter (6-0, 6-1) and
CCNY (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 6 flight as SJC won both
contests…also emerged victorious at No. 3 doubles against
Hunter (8-1) and CCNY (8-0).
Morgan Holbrook – Mount Saint Mary
Freshman, Montgomery, NY/Valley Central HS
Holbrook lost just one total game at No. 2 singles as Mount Saint
Mary posted wins over Sarah Lawrence (9-0) and Yeshiva
(9-0)…at No. 2 doubles, she enjoyed a 9-0 victory versus
Sarah Lawrence and an 8-1 win against Yeshiva.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Jessica Sickles – Farmingdale State
Sophomore, Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa HS
Sickles enjoyed a 3-0 mark at No. 1 singles as well as a 3-0
record at No. 1 doubles as Farmingdale State registered wins over
Staten Island (5-4), Baruch (5-4) and Yeshiva (8-1)…notched
a 6-1, 6-1 victory versus Staten Island and did not lose a game
(6-0, 6-0) against Yeshiva.
Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Abigail Katz - Purchase
Senior, Midfielder, Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS
Katz compiled four goals and one assist and recorded a
game-winning goal over two matches while amassing 15
shots…netted a hat trick on Sept. 12 as Purchase turned
aside John Jay, 4-0…added a goal on Sept. 15 in a 3-2 loss
to the College of Staten Island.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Shanice Robe – Mount Saint Mary
Freshman, Forward, Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream Central
HS
Robe scored four goals – including her third game-winning
tally of the season – as Mount Saint Mary posted victories
over Bard (3-1) and Albany Pharmacy (4-0)…had two goals
against Bard, including the game-winner, and added two more goals
versus Albany Pharmacy…named the Skyline Rookie of the Week
for the second consecutive week.
Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Andres Torres – NYU-Poly
Sophomore, Forward, Weston, FL/Cypress Bay HS
Torres tallied a pair of goals Sept. 10 as NYU-Poly earned a 5-1
win over Purchase and added two more goals in Poly’s 8-0 win
over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Sept. 15…compiled 13
shots in the two contests…has netted six goals on the
year.
Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
TJ Zehner – The Sage Colleges
Freshman, Goalie, Beacon, NY/Beacon HS
Zehner registered four saves on Sept. 12 as Sage rallied for a 2-1
win over Southern Vermont…earned a shared shutout on Sept.
15 as the Gators blanked Sarah Lawrence, 6-0…boasts a 0.85
goals against average for the season.
Women's Volleyball Player of the Week
Mary Ann Raftery – Mount Saint Mary
Senior, Outside Hitter, Long Beach, NY/St. John the Baptist
HS
Raftery averaged 4.0 kills and 3.08 digs over 12 sets and garnered
All-Tourney honors at the New Paltz Hawk Invite…posted
double-digit kills three times in a 3-1 week for the Knights and
added 0.75 blocks per set.
Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Ashleigh Scozzari – Mount Saint Vincent
Freshman, Middle Hitter, New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle HS
Scozzari averaged 3.2 kills, 1.3 digs and added seven total blocks
as Mount Saint Vincent enjoyed a 3-0 week with wins over Mitchell
(3-1), College of Staten Island (3-0) and Yeshiva
(3-0)…recorded 13 kills at Mitchell and added six digs and
five total blocks versus CSI…put away 32 kills and committed
just eight attack errors over the three victories.
Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the
Week
Katherine Henri - Purchase
Freshman, Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy
Henri repeats as Skyline Rookie of the Week after winning the
individual title at the Valiant Invitational on Sept. 15 with a
time of 19:28…field consisted of 57 runners….marked
her second individual crown in as many weeks…the Panthers
finished third in the seven-team field.
