Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Brandon Abbatiello – St.
Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River HS
Abbatiello went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and won both of his matches
at the second doubles flight as St. Joseph's-L.I. notched victories
over NYU-Poly (5-4) and Staten Island (7-2)…won a critical
6-3, 6-7, 6-2 decision on Apr. 17 as the Golden Eagles edged
NYU-Poly to secure the final spot in the upcoming Skyline
Championship…rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 win on Apr. 18
versus Staten Island.
Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Tyler Danzy – Farmingdale State
Freshman, Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS
Danzy registered a pair of straight-set victories at the No. 1
singles flight as Farmingdale State downed Brooklyn (6-3) and fell
to Ramapo (6-3)…recorded a 6-0, 6-0 decision versus Brooklyn
on Apr. 19…posted a 6-3, 6-3 result on Apr. 17 against
Ramapo…tabbed the Skyline Rookie of the Week for the second
time.
Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Nicole Marzocca – Farmingdale State
Junior, Midfielder, North Babylon, NY/North Babylon HS
In the Rams' lone contest of the week, Marzocca scored three goals
and registered a career-high seven assists on Apr. 16 as FSC
captured the Skyline regular season crown with an 18-10 win over
St. Joseph's-L.I…added six draw controls and a caused
turnover…tabbed the Skyline Player of the Week for the third
time this season.
Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Jane Quinn - Maritime
Freshman, Midfielder, Oakdale, NY/Connetquot HS
Quinn tallied nine goals on 20 shots and added 13 ground balls, 10
draw controls and seven caused turnovers in leading Maritime to
victories over USMMA (12-10) on Apr. 14 and Old Westbury (10-8) on
Apr. 16…scored four second-half goals and added an assist
versus USMMA…notched a season-high five goals against Old
Westbury…named the Skyline Rookie of the Week for the second
time.
Softball Players of the Week
Meagan Anderson – Farmingdale State
Sophomore, C, Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford HS
Anderson collected eight hits in 14 at-bats (.571) with eight runs
scored and five RBI as FSC enjoyed a 4-0 week and secured a berth
in the upcoming Skyline Championship…had a triple, a home
run, three walks and two doubles…was a single shy of hitting
for the cycle on Apr. 19 in the Rams' 8-1 win over
Purchase…her RBI double in the sixth inning on Apr. 17
lifted FSC past Staten Island, 3-2…her 17 doubles are a
program single-season record…named the Skyline Player of the
Week for the second time this season.
Hillary Faas - Sage
Senior, SS, East Greenbush, NY/Columbia HS
Fass batted .579 (11-for-19) with eight RBI and five runs scored
in a 4-1 week for the Gators…added three walks…went
3-for-4 with three RBI on Apr. 16 as Sage edged Mount Saint Mary,
9-8…had five hits in seven at-bats – including her
sixth home run of the season – in a doubleheader sweep (8-1,
6-5) of Old Westbury on Apr. 18…tabbed the Skyline Player of
the Week for the second consecutive week.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Cassie Martinez – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, RHP, Centereach, NY/Centereach HS
Martinez earned a pair victories while allowing just one run over
13.1 innings pitched…struck out 15 and did not walk a
batter…fanned seven while going the distance in the Golden
Eagles' 4-0 win over Mount Saint Vincent on Apr. 17…allowed
a run on six hits and struck out eight on Apr. 19 in a 7-1 win
versus Hunter…tabbed the Skyline Pitcher of the Week for the
second time this season.
Softball Rookie of the Week
Gabriella Valdes – Old Westbury
Freshman, LF, Queens, NY/Benjamin N. Cardozo HS
Valdes had four multi-hit performances and scored six runs in a
2-2 week for the Panthers…had two hits – including a
RBI-double – and added a run scored on Apr. 18 in a 6-5 loss
to Sage…collected four hits and five runs scored as OW won a
pair of games (13-3, 16-4) versus Baruch on Apr. 16….added a
pair of stolen bases, three RBI and a walk on the week.
Baseball Player of the Week
Michael Sarni - Purchase
Senior, 2B, Shelton, CT/Shelton HS
Sarni's two-run single in the fifth inning on Apr. 18 proved to be
the difference as Purchase edged Farmingdale State, 3-2…went
3-for-5 in the Panthers' 2-1 (10) loss to Farmingdale State in game
two of a double header…batted .417 with three stolen bases
on the week…hit safely in all three games and did not commit
an error in the field.
Baseball Pitchers of the Week
Arismendy Nunez – Old Westbury
Senior, RHP, Bronx, NY/Morris HS
Nunez tossed a seven-inning no-hitter on Apr. 17 as Old Westbury
earned a 3-1 win over Stevens…fanned four and walked
one…notched his fourth victory of the year…tabbed the
Skyline Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Glenn Patriss – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Junior, RHP, Wading River, NY/Riverhead HS
Patriss registered a nine-inning complete-game shutout on Apr. 17
as St. Joseph's-L.I. posted a 5-0 victory against Mount Saint
Mary…scattered four hits – all singles - and fanned
three to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Baseball Rookie of the Week
Josh Outsen – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, INF, Lindenhurst, NY/Copaigue HS
Outsen hit .417 (5-for-12) with a pair of walks and two runs
scored in a 4-0 week for St. Joseph's-L.I…went 3-for-3 on
Apr. 17 as the Golden Eagles edged Mount Saint Mary, 2-1…had
two hits, two runs scored and a pair of walks on Apr. 19 in a 13-3
win over NYU-Poly.
