Ferchland & Zigrosser Win 10/27 Skyline Weekly Awards, Six Named in Report

New York, N.Y. – Six St. Joseph College Golden Eagles were awarded honors in the Skyline Conference’s Report for October 27.

The following student-athletes were named in the report:

SJC’s junior middle hitter, Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./ Centereach), was named Player of the Week after helping the women’s volleyball team to a 3-2 record over the past week. In St. Joseph's College's five contests, Ferchland averaged 3.89 kills per game with an outstanding .484 hitting percentage. This is Ferchland’s third time being awarded Player of the Week this season.

Lady Eagle AnnMarie Zigrosser (Bayport, N.Y. / St. John's the Baptist) tallied her second straight Runner of the Week honor after finishing the Skyline Championship meet with a winning time of 20:08.38 on the 5k course at Hudson Valley Sportsdome. Zigrosser’s time helped boost SJC to earn its fifth consecutive league championship. This is Zigrosser fifth time being name Runner of the Week this season.

The men’s soccer team had sophomore goalkeeper Avery Gomez (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) and senior midfielder Chris Hall (Mastic, N.Y. / William Floyd) earn Honor Roll mentions after they helped lead the Golden Eagles to two consecutive wins this past week.  Gomez was perfect in net games garnering shutouts in both, while Hall accumulated three points and a game-winning goal against Skyline Conference rival, Farmingdale State.

Senior forward Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) and freshman midfielder Claire Brady (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) both received Honor Roll mentions for their excellent performances that helped lead the Lady Eagle soccer team to the postseason. Over the past week, Martino amassed two goals and Brady notched three points.
