Bender, Alessi & Mohammed Earn Skyline Player of the Week Awards

Skyline Report for November 26, 2012

New York, N.Y. - Three St. Joseph's College Golden Eagles earned Skyline Player of the Week honors for the period ending November 25, 2012. 

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Amanda Bender – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Senior, Forward, East Northport, NY/Northport HS

Bender averaged 25.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as St. Joseph’s-L.I. posted victories over Mount Saint Vincent (64-60) and CCNY (70-49)…poured in a career-high 36 points and added six boards and three steals versus CCNY on Nov. 24…shot 19-of-35 from the field on the week. 

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Sinead Gooney – Mount Saint Vincent
Freshman, Forward, Bronx, NY/St. Catherine Academy
 
Gooney scored a season-high 11 points and grabbed three rebounds on Nov. 20 in a 64-60 loss to St. Joseph’s-L.I…made 5-of-7 field goal attempts…added an assist and a steal. 

Men's Basketball Players of the Week
Evan Mohammed – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Sophomore, Guard, Bayside, NY/Holy Cross HS

Mohammed scored a career-best 23 points on 6-of-7 shooting from three-point range as St. Joseph’s-L.I. earned an 81-73 victory over CCNY on Nov. 24…made 7-of-9 field goal attempts and added four rebounds, four steals and three assists. 

Josh Hill – Old Westbury
Sophomore, Forward, Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin HS

Hill scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds on Nov. 20 as Old Westbury registered an 81-70 win versus Brooklyn...knocked down 10-of-12 shots at the foul line…added three assists.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Melvin Ford – The Sage Colleges
Freshman, Forward, Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional HS

Ford scored a season-high 11 points and pulled down three rebounds on Nov. 20 as Sage rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to edge Rensselaer on Nov. 20, 94-89…knocked down 4-of-6 shots from the field…recorded a pair of steals, an assist and a blocked shot.  

Women's Swimmer of the Week
Jessica Alessi – St. Joseph’s-L.I.
Sophomore, Holtsville, NY/Sachem-East HS

Alessi won the 100-yard butterfly (1:14.43) and 200-yard individual medley (2:44.35) events on Nov. 19 as St. Joseph’s-L.I. earned a 130-50 victory over the College of New Rochelle…also swam a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:17.12). 

Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week
Hayley Hobbs - Maritime
Freshman, Louisville, KY/Mercy Academy

Hobbs won both the 50-yard freestyle (27.72) and 100-yard butterfly (1:06.52) events on Nov. 20 in Maritime’s 147-78 loss to the College of Staten Island.
