Women's Volleyball Player of the Week
Heather Ferchland – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Junior, Middle Hitter, Selden, NY/Centereach HS
Ferchland averaged 4.46 kills with a .479 hitting percentage over
13 sets to earn her second Player of the Week citation in as many
weeks…registered 18 kills in 19 attempts on Sept. 20 in the
Golden Eagles' 3-0 win over CCNY…slammed 27 kills and hit
.404 for the match in a 3-2 loss at Rutgers-Newark on Sept.
18…notched 13 kills on Sept. 20 in a 3-2 setback versus
Montclair State…added five digs versus CCNY.
Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Shannon Brady - Maritime
Freshman, Outside Hitter, Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point
HS
Brady was named to the Maritime Classic (Sept. 20-21)
All-Tournament team as she averaged 4.2 kills and 1.9 digs over 10
sets…set a modern-day program record with 22 kills on Sept.
20 in the Privateers' 3-1 win over Massachusetts
Maritime…marked her second 20-kill performance of the
season…added 14 kills and eight digs in a 3-0 loss to Maine
Maritime (Sept. 20).
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Brian Wersan – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Holbrook, NY/Sachem North HS
Wersan finished second overall at the Bard Invitational on Sept.
20 in a time of 25:22, the fastest by a SJC runner at the meet in
program history…field consisted of 173 runners….St.
Joseph's-L.I. placed second in the 20-team field…Wersan
earns his second Runner of the Week citation in as many
weeks.
Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Nicholas Sherman - Maritime
Freshman, Huntington, NY/Huntington HS
Competing at the Bard Invitational on Sept. 20, Sherman placed
seventh overall in a field of 173 runners with a time of
25:53…was the top Maritime runner to lead the Privateers to
a fifth-place finish in the 20-team field.
Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week
Lauren Waka – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North HS
AnnMarie Zigrosser – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Bayport, NY/St. John the Baptist HS
Waka and Zigrosser crossed the finish line together on Sept. 20 in
a time of 18:16 as St. Joseph's-L.I. captured the team title at the
Bard Invitational…their times were the fastest in team
history at the Bard Invitational…the field consisted of 177
competitors…Waka earns her second Runner of the Week
citation in as many weeks.
Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Ilenis Quinones - Sage
Freshman, Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam HS
Competing at the Bard Invitational on Sept. 20, Quinones was the
first Gator to cross the finish line as she posted a time of 18:47
on the 5K course…finished seventh out of 177
runners…Sage placed fifth in a field of 19 teams.
Men's Soccer Player of the Week
TJ Zehner - Sage
Junior, Goalie, Beacon, NY/Beacon HS
Zehner posted a pair of shutouts while registering eight saves in
a 1-0-1 week for the Gators…amassed six saves on Sept. 21 as
Sage opened Skyline play with a 3-0 win at Yeshiva…recorded
a pair of saves on Sept. 17 as the Gators played to a scoreless tie
against Union (NY)…became the program's all-time leader in
saves (125), victories (16) and shutouts (12).
Men's Soccer Rookies of the Week
Andrew Gomez – Mount Saint Vincent
Freshman, Midfielder, Sun City, CA/Vista Murrieta HS
Gomez scored three goals – including the game-winner in
overtime – as Mount Saint Vincent overcame a three-goal
deficit for the first time in program annals to edge Yeshiva (4-3)
on Sept. 17…registered nine shots over two
contests.
Dominick Guidice – Old Westbury
Freshman, Forward, Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's HS
Guidice amassed nine points on four goals and one assist and
totaled 10 shots over two contests…scored both of Old
Westbury's goals on Sept. 16 in a 3-2 loss to Baruch…tallied
a pair of goals – including the game-winner – and added
an assist in the Panthers' 5-0 victory at Sarah Lawrence on Sept.
20…leads OW in both goals (eight) and points (20) on the
season.
Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Ashlee Thompson – Farmingdale State
Junior, Forward, Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North HS
Thompson scored a goal in all three of Farmingdale State's
contests on the week and compiled eight shots
overall…tallied the game-winner on Sept. 17 in the Rams' 2-1
victory over Stevens…notched the team's lone goal in a 1-1
draw at Scranton Sept. 20…added her fourth goal of the
season on Sept. 21 as FSC earned a 3-0 win versus Mount Saint
Vincent.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Taylor Howard – Farmingdale State
Freshman, Forward, Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa HS
Howard compiled five points with two goals and an assist on nine
shots in a 2-0-1 week for Farmingdale State…scored the
game-winning goal and added an assist on Sept. 21 in Rams' 3-0
victory at Mount Saint Vincent in the Skyline opener for both
teams…added a goal on Sept. 17 as FSC edged Stevens,
2-1…had a match-high four shots on goal in the Rams' 1-1
draw at Scranton on Sept. 20.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Jessica Sickles – Farmingdale State
Senior, Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa HS
Sickles enjoyed a 3-0 week at the No. 1 singles flight as
Farmingdale State notched wins over Yeshiva (9-0) and Oneonta State
(5-4) and was edged by Ramapo (5-4)…earned a hard-fought
4-6, 6-2, 10-5 decision on Sept. 21 versus YU…posted a 6-2,
6-2 victory against Oneonta State on Sept. 20 and a 6-3, 6-0 win on
Sept. 17 versus Ramapo…added a pair of victories and the No.
1 doubles position.
Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Shani Hava - Yeshiva
Freshman, Petach Tikva, Israel/Brener HS
Hava registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles and added an 8-2
decision at No. 1 doubles on Sept. 17 as Yeshiva earned a 6-3
victory against Sarah Lawrence…was edged (6-4, 2-6, 5-10) on
Sept. 21 versus Farmingdale State at the No. 1 flight…named
the Skyline Rookie of the Week for the second time in as many
weeks.
