Kevin Spann enters his second season as the head coach of the Golden Eagles Men’s Basketball program. In his first season, Spann restored he program to its place among the Skyline Conference elite.

In 2014-15, the Golden Eagles made a run to the Skyline Conference Championship against #6 regionally ranked Sage College. It was the team’s first appearance in the conference finals since the 2010-11 season. The Golden Eagles captured the #2 seed, earning a first-round bye, with a 13-5 conference record. Senior Forward Sean McCarthy was named to the All-Skyline First-Team, and sophomore guards Andy Laurent and Fernando Vazquez were named to the All-Skyline Second-Team. Under the tutelage of Coach Spann, this marked the first time in school history three Golden Eagles were in the top 10 in scoring in the Conference.

McCarthy was four-time Skyline Player of the week, ECAC Metro Player of the week, and also garnered All-Tournament Team honors at the Rose City Classic, averaging a team best 15.9 points and 6.7 rebounds on 49% shooting. Laurent averaged 14 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists, while leading the conference in playoff scoring with 19.5 points per game.

Vazquez, a first year transfer had a break out year with 13.4 points per game, knocking down 51 threes on the year, good for second on the team. Senior point guard Nick Gallina led the Skyline Conference in assists (129), as well as assists to turnover ratio (2.48). Gallina was also named to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Team.

The team finished first in scoring defense, allowing a conference low 65.8 points per game. The Golden Eagles averaged a Skyline best 8.8 threes per game, while shooting a conference best 36% from long range. In Coach Spann’s first season, the team was second in the Conference with 73 points per game, as well as second in margin of victory (+7.2) per game.

The Men’s Basketball Program achieved a team GPA of 3.05 at the end of the 2014 fall semester, and seven members on the roster achieved over a 3.0 GPA in the spring 2015 semester. Fernando Vazquez and freshman Dan Brzozka earned Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll honors, maintaining over a 3.3 GPA while participating in athletics.

Coach Spann was named head men’s basketball coach on September, 22, 2014.

I didn't come here to be average or to fail, my intention is to succeed with the players in the program, and build a rich tradition of winning for years to come." 

Spann began his collegiate coaching career at Division II's LIU-Post as an assistant under head coach Tim Cluess in 2009 for a team that went 23-6 and made an appearance in the East Coast Conference Championship game. Coach Spann then returned to his High School Alma Mater St. John the Baptist where he was the assistant coach of the varsity and head coach of the junior varsity squads from 2012-2014.

As a player, Spann tallied 1,000 points at both the high school and collegiate levels. His career as a college student-athlete began at Division I's St. Peter's College. In his freshman campaign, Spann started at point guard for a Peacock Squad that made a MAAC Championship appearance against Iona College. He later moved on to LIU-Post, where he captained a 26-4 team, and a 30-1 team, his junior and senior year, respectively. 

Spann averaged 13.3 points and 4.8 assists, helping the program win two East Coast Conference Championships and an NCAA Division II Regional Championship. Spann's playing days were not finished after college, however, as he spent two and a half years as a professional player for Harlem Globetrotters International Inc, serving as the captain of the Washington Generals for two international tours and promoted to the Harlem Globetrotters for a tour.

Spann hails from North Babylon, N.Y, and has a Business Degree from LIU Post University in 2009.
