Baseball Sunk by Maritime in Skyline Tournament First Round

Patchogue, N.Y. – The #5 Maritime Privateers (15-20) shut down the #4 St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (16-22) 4-0 in the single-elimination, opening round of the Skyline Conference Baseball Tournament.   Maritime advances to the double-elimination portion of the tournament which begins on Friday at Farmingdale State.  With the loss, St. Joseph's concludes the season earlier than they anticipated.

Maritime starter Christopher Myers (3-4) stifled the Golden Eagles bats for the whole nine innings, allowing three hits, walking two, striking out six and finding his way through four Privateer errors' to keep the home team off the scoreboard.

Maritime jumped out to a big 3-0 lead in the top of the first.  Nick Galli led off the game with a triple to center and then Joseph Longo got him home with a base hit for an early tally at 1-0.  The Privateers would get back-to-back singles from Joey Semler and Albert Doerbecker to load the bases, before Matthew Sollin had an RBI groundout for the second run.  Semler would score two plays later on a throwing error by SJC's pitcher Robert Hyde to cap the innings' run total at three.

Semler and Doerbecker again got consecutive singles in the third as Semler then scored on a throwing error by SJC catcher Mike Aloisio.

The Golden Eagles' starter Robert Hyde (4-3) settled down after a rough first inning to allow four runs (two earned) over seven innings, seven hits, three walks and struck out eight.  Reliever Chris Rubin threw two perfect innings in relief for St. Joseph's.
