Committee of Nine Hurlers Lead SJC to Win Over Briarcliffe

Patchogue, N.Y.– The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (3-7) used nine different pitchers in nine innings to shutdown the offense of Briarcliffe en route to a 6-1 win at a chilly Gregg Alfano Field on Thursday afternoon.

Briarcliffe got on the board first in the top of the sixth on three singles before SJC answered back in the bottom of the frame on a James Nakashian single that brought home Anthony Andreani to tie the game at 1-1.

St. Joseph's broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the seventh on RBI hits by Andreani and Joseph Lynn and a sacrifice fly by Anthony BonillaRyan Walsh came home on a wild pitch and the fifth run was the result of a double steal of second and home by Nakashian and Lynn, respectively.

Andreani went 4-for-5 on the day with an RBI and two runs scored.  Lynn was 3-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Anthony Rizzo (1-0) picked up the win with a perfect inning in the top of the seventh.  Also, pitching perfectly in their innings were Frank Ziegler, Adam Brisman and Chris Bauer.

SJC waits to see what the weather will bring tomorrow as they are currently scheduled to host New Jersey City University for a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
