Golden Eagles Baseball Racks Up Two More Skyline Wins vs. Purchase

Purchase, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles (13-9, 8-0 SKY) took a road trip to face the Purchase Panthers (7-9, 4-4 SKY) on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader and couldn't have made out much better, winning 7-5 and 5-3. They headed into the day unbeaten in Skyline Conference play and they would leave the same. The Golden Eagles crossed twelve runners across the plate on the day and that was enough to take the brooms out and earn the series sweep.

Game 1: Golden Eagles 7, Panthers 5
The Golden Eagles kept the bats rolling in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday. They logged an impressive fourteen hits in the game, cashing in on seven runs. Nick Girardi was the silver slugger for the game, as he was able to connect with three hits. His presence on the base-paths paid off as he was able to cross the plate twice, accounting for two of the seven Golden Eagle runs.

The Golden Eagles started the game off with a deficit, as the Panthers were able to send one runner across the plate in the bottom of the first. That lead wouldn't last for too long, as the bats came around in the top of the fourth. SJC would score two runs on five hits to give themselves a one run lead. Anthony Andreani and Ryan Walsh came through in the clutch, each hitting RBI singles.

The following inning, the Golden Eagles went right back to work, tacking another run on the board via an Anthony Bonilla RBI hit, extending their lead to two. The Panthers would eventually retaliate in the bottom of the sixth, as they would record three runs on three hits, giving them a one run lead for the second time in the game. However, the Golden Eagles wouldn't go away, as they fought right back and regained the lead in the top of the seventh. The ball wasn't bouncing the Panthers way, as they committed two errors allowing the Golden Eagles to capitalize scoring three runs. The score would remain the same for the rest of the game, giving St. Joseph's the victory and keeping their Skyline record perfect.

Matt Mills would grab the vulture win out of the bullpen, increasing his record to 2-1. He was able to post another two K's to his cumulative stats, increasing his total to thirteen on the season.

Game 2: Golden Eagles 5, Panthers 3
Nick Girardi took the bump in game two and would end up with a no decision on the day, but the Golden Eagles would record another "W". The Panthers would strike first in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs but SJC answered right back in the top of the fourth, with a run of their own from a Joe Calabrese groundout. Calabrese's RBI scored Girardi for his first run scored in the game and his third on the day.

The most explosive inning came in the top of the seventh, as the Golden Eagles were able to plate three runs off of two hits. Once again, Calabrese would come to the plate in another big spot and was able to cash in once again. He was able to connect with an RBI single with the bases loaded, for his thirteenth RBI of the season. As the bases were still loaded, Mike Griffo walked giving him an RBI as well. The Golden Eagles weren't done there, as Joseph Lynn followed the trend and recorded an RBI single of his own.

The Golden Eagles were able to shut the door in the bottom of the seventh as Chris Bauer took the mound for his first save of the 2015 campaign. Frank Trionfo was the pitcher of record with 1 1/3 innings and recorded his first win of the season making him 1-1 overall.

With the sweep St Joseph's betters their perfect Skyline Conference to 8-0. They will look to remain unbeaten on Saturday, as they will head to Mount Saint Mary for a doubleheader.
