Baseball Takes Two From Mount St. Mary in Conference Double Header

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team swept the Mount St. Mary Knights, 7-0, 3-2, in a Skyline Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at Gregg Alfano Field. The Golden Eagles improve to 14-9 and 7-5 in conference play as Mount St. Mary slides to 9-19 (3-4 Skyline).

Game 1

After three silent innings, the Golden Eagles loaded up the bases for Daniel Campanelli in the bottom of the fourth, Campanelli singled to left field to bring home Joseph Calabrese for the 1-0 lead.

St. Joseph's put on a strong offensive showing in the bottom of the sixth, with Brendan Sullivan hitting a three-run shot over the centerfield fence to take a 4-0 lead. The Golden Eagles had the bases loaded once more for Nick Girardi, who singled up the middle to drive in two more runs, 5-0. Calabrese tacked on another insurance run with a sacrifice fly to right field to score James Nakashian for the commanding 6-0 lead.

Luke Brown came in to relief in the bottom of the eighth to seal the 7-0 victory for the Golden Eagles.

Josh Outsen earned his second win of the season only letting up three hits in 7 2/3 innings of work.

Game 2

The Golden Eagles broke Mount St. Mary's bid for a no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh, when Campanelli singled past the diving Rob Peccerillo. With runners on first and second Girardi doubled two the center fielder to score Campanelli to go up on the board first 1-0.  Next at-bat, Mike Griffo singled to centerfield and brought home Girardi and Nakashian for the 3-0 lead.

The Knights put runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth when Tom Huvane doubled to deep center field to inch back into the game 3-2.

Brandon Lubrano tossed 5.2 innings allowing two runs in four hits and striking out nine batters.

The Golden Eagles will continue their home stand on Tuesday April 19 when they take on Ramapo College at Gregg Alfano Field. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
