Baseball Drops Non-Conference Slate to #5 Ramapo, 5-3

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team dropped a non-conference game, 5-3, to #5 Ramapo College on Tuesday afternoon at Gregg Alfano field. The Golden Eagles drop to 14-10 on the season as the Roadrunners improve to a 24-4-1 mark.

Nick Girardi found himself in a bases loaded jam in the top of the second inning, walking all three batters, when he walked his fourth consecutive batter to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. He then walked his fifth batter in a row to hand Ramapo a 2-0 advantage. The Roadrunners scored their third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Joe Venturino. Girardi would then exit the game after walking his sixth batter of the inning with Nick Mannarino coming in for relief.

James Nakashian got the offense started for the Golden Eagles in the bottom half of the third with a single to the second baseman, and Anthony Schuler singled to the right side to put runners on first and second. Next, Bob Keating was awarded first base after being hit by a pitch, Joseph Calabrese stepped up to bat with the bases loaded and drove in two runs with an RBI single to the right fielder to inch SJC back into the game (3-2).

The Roadrunners recorded their first hit of the contest in the top of the fourth with a bunt single by Bobby Shannon. Shannon would then advance to second on a stolen bases and Mattew Chemis would bring him home with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the visitors a two-run lead (4-2).

In the bottom of the fifth, Calabrese took one deep for his third homerun of the season to cut the Golden Eagles' deficit to one (4-3).

Ramapo College threatened to score once more in the top of the seventh when it had runners on first and second. Brandon Martinez poked a base-hit through the right side to give the Roadrunners a two run lead 5-3.

Jerry D'Andrea came in to relief in the eighth inning to close the game out for the visitors.

SJC's Calabrese recoreded a game-best three hits (3-4) and matched a season-high with three RBI's.

The Golden Eagles retun to action on April 23 when they host Mount St. Vincent 12:00 PM for a Senior Day showdown. The team's 14 seniors will be honored with a postgame ceremony. Live stats for the games will be avilable here.
