Baseball Opens Up Skyline Championship Tournament With 6-3 Win Over Farmingdale

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team advances to the winner's bracket of the Skyline Championship Conference Tournament with a 6-3 win over the Farmingdale State Rams on early Saturday morning.

The Golden Eagles got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Joe Calabrese tripled into the right center field gap scoring Nick Girardi for the 1-0 lead.

The Rams equalized the game in the bottom of the first with runners on the corners for Brandon Snow who scored Nick Attardi.

Farmingdale had runners on first and second once more for Kenneth Johntry  as he hit an RBI single to third base taking the 2-1 lead over the visitors. Johntry and Anthony Gigante pulled off a successful double steal for an additional insurance run 3-1.

Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the eighth, when Nick Girardi doubled down the left field line to score Tyler Crafa to inch back within one (3-2). Bob Keating then drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to deep center field scoring Girardi.

The two teams would head into extra as the Golden Eagles took the game to the 12th inning, Girardi was intentionally walked to load up the bases for the Golden Eagles. Bob Keating worked a bases loaded walk to help the Golden Eagles take a 4-3 lead.  Joe Lynn singled to right field to tack on two more runs as St. Joseph's took a three-run victory (6-3).

Josh Outsen received the win tossing 2.2 innings allowing zero runs and one hit, while striking out one batter.

Nick Girardi went one-for-three on the day scoring three runs and recording an RBI.

The Golden Eagles will now face the winner of the St. Joseph's College (Brklyn) and Old Westbury game in the winner's bracket tomorrow at 10 AM at Farmingdale State College.
