Baseball Advances to Championship Game in 12-1 Rout of SJC-Brooklyn

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team advanced to the Skyline Conference championship game at Farmingdale State College on Tuesday after taking down St. Joseph's College (Brkln), 12-1, early on Sunday afternoon. The Bears wrap the season with a 22-19 record as the Golden Eagles improve to 23-10.

Neither teams could generate any offense in the first three innings until the top of the fourth, when Brenden Sullivan led off the inning with a walk. Nick Girardi was able to score him after hitting a deep fly ball triple to right center to take the early 1-0 lead. Joe Calabrese then singled through the left side to score Giradi to double SJC's lead (2-0). Bob Keating hit the first pitch of his at-bat to the right center field gap for an RBI double to increase the Golden Eagles lead to 3-0.

Anthony Bonilla led off the top of the fifth with a triple to the left field wall, and Sullivan singled on the next pitch to drive Bonilla in for the 4-0 lead. Joseph Lynn approached the plate with the bases loaded and split the outfielders with a bases-clearing triple to tack on three additional runs (7-0). Dan Campanelli added another run when he advanced the runner 90 feet for the 8-0 advantage. Ryan Walsh then launched a ball to the woods over the left field fence giving the Golden Eagles a 9-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles continued to tack on runs the following inning as Keating earned his third hit of the afternoon with a single to right center.  Campanelli drove in his third run of the contest with a double down the left line scoring both Keatin and Girardi giving SJC a commanding 12-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the ninth the Bears were able to capitalize on a misplayed ball, scoring their only run of the contest, but could not overcome their deficit as they Golden Eagles would get the better of the Bears with a 12-1 victory.

Ryan Alosie got the start on the bump today, earning his seventh victory of the year tossing six scoreless innings, striking out four batters and allowing five hits.

Keating went 3-for-5 with two RBI's and scored two runs in the contest.

The Golden Eagles will now face the top-seed Farmingdale State Rams for the Skyline Championship title, and a chance to earn a trip to the NCAA's, on Tuesday, May 10 at 4 PM at Farmingdale State College.
