Patchogue,  NY| Behind a three-hit, two-RBI day from junior center fielder Matthew Burnett, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team defeated John Jay, 12-1, in a non-conference tilt Wednesday at Gregg Alfano Field in Patchogue, NY.

The Golden Eagles (1-0) win their seventh consecutive home opener, while the Bloodhounds drop to 1-8 on the year.

After a quiet two innings, the Golden Eagles would strike first courtesy of a RBI ground out by Burnett to drive in Tyler Crafa.

SJC opened the game up in the fourth with back-to-back doubles by Anthony Raucci and Dan Campanelli to push the runs across the board increasing the hosts lead to three.

In the bottom of the fifth, Paul Britt sent a ball over the fences to help cushion the Golden Eagles lead 4-0. John Jay got on the board in the top of the sixth when Dylan Laudano slapped a single to right field to drive in Charlee Rodriguez to cut its deficit to three (4-1).

A throwing error by the Bloodhounds in the bottom of the seventh pushed across Lou Doria and Paul Britt to give the Blue and Gold a five-point lead. Doria would cap the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning with a grand slam over the right field fence to give SJC the 12-1 victory.

Nick Clemente received the start on the bump going three innings allowing one hit and striking out five of the 11 batters he faced. Josh Outsen earned the win in his two innings of work, and PJ Martino closed the game out, in his first appearance as a Golden Eagle, tossing two scoreless and striking out four.

The Golden Eagles will return to the diamond on Thursday, March 16 when they host Lehman College at 4:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
