Baseball Sweeps Yeshiva in Conference Opener on Sunday Afternoon

Palisades Park, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team got big pitching performances from left-hander Brandon Lubrano and righty Josh Outsen and combined to outhit Yeshiva University 30-4 in 12 innings in a sweep Yeshiva University (12-0, 20-0) on Sunday. 

With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-4 (2-0 Skyline) on the season as Yeshiva slides to 0-9 (0-6).

Game 1
SJC 12, YU 0- 5 Innings

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the first inning after Anthony Bonilla got on base by a fielding error and stealing two bases to put himself in scoring position. After back-to-back strikeouts Paul Britt singled to center field to bring Bonilla home.

SJC loaded the bases in the second inning after a single, error, and single to right field. A single by Bonilla and a sac fly by Matthew Burnett made it 3-0. The Golden Eagles scored two more runs in the inning after Crafa took advantage of a pass ball and a Lou Doria ground out plated Bonilla.

SJC tacked on two more runs in the third inning after an RBI single by Tyler Sanderson and a throwing error scored Daniel Campanelli.

In the fourth with the bases loaded, SJC scored five more runs courtesy of four consecutive one out singles by Sanderson, Crafa, Bonilla, and Burnett to take game one of the doubleheader, 12-0.

Lubrano tossed four scoreless innings, struck out six and allowed three hits. Bonilla went two-for-three scoring two runs and three RBIs, while Raucci went two-for-three and scored two runs in the win.

Game 2
SJC 20, YU 0 - 7 Innings

Gehrig Montoro scored the first run of the contest in the top of the first, and Sean Balsam doubled SJC's lead after a sac fly to center field drove in Louis Fontinha.

The Golden Eagles added a single run in the second after a throwing miscue by the Maccabees and later put the game out of reach with eight runs in the third and two runs in the fourth.

The Golden Eagles had five hits in the fifth when Balsam and Andrew Grieve singled. Tyler Costa plated Grieve and Mercurio, and Britt plated Vincent Biordi and Costa, respectively. Mercurio took advantage of a passed ball for the 18-0 lead.

With the bases loaded and one out, Grieve worked a walk and Andrew Libertelli reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Michael Reda.

Outsen pitched a complete game shutout allowing one hit and striking out a career-high 14 batters. Libertelli had his best outing of the season with a 3-for-5 day, scoring three runs. Montoro had a pair of hits and drove in four batters in the contest.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 28 when they travel to take on Kean University in a non-conference showdown at 4:00 PM. Live video and stats will be available here.
