Baseball Sweeps CMSV, 10-3, 10-0 Behind Piscitelli's 6-RBI Day

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team earned its sixth shutout of the season as the Golden Eagles took a two-game sweep over Skyline Conference-foe the College of Mount St. Mary (7-19, 3-7 Skyline) on Thursday afternoon at Gregg Alfano Field. SJC (16-7, 9-1 Skyline) defeated the Dolphins 10-3 in game one before winning the nightcap 10-0.

Nick Clemente tallied four strikeouts in game one, leading the Golden Eagles to the 10-3 victory. PJ Martino earned the win in game two with three strikeouts in five innings pitched, while Justin Fitzpatrick added a strikeout in the final inning of the second game.


Game 1
SJC-LI 10, CMSV 3

Matt Burnett and Lou Doria each tallied two hits apiece in the first game while, Dan Campanelli, Tyler Sanderson, Dylan Piscitelli, and Tyler Crafa all contributed with a hit of their own.

After three-scoreless innings with two outs, Dan Campanelli singled to left field before an Anthony Raucci walked, both runners advanced a base after a wild pitch, as Piscitelli ripped a single to right field to score the game's first two runs.


The Dolphins got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to trail 2-1, but SJC answered back with a four-spot the following inning.


Crafa began the action with a single, a stolen base, and advance to third on a wild pitch, he later scored on a Burnett fielder's choice to extend SJC's lead 3-1.  After a stolen base by Burnett, Paul Britt reached base safely and took second due to an erratic throw by the shortstop that brought home Burnett.  Up 4-0, Doria launched a two-run homer over the right field fence to tack on the fifth and sixth run for the Golden Eagles.

A pair of outs put SJC on edge, but a 2-RBI single up the middle from Burnett gave the Golden Eagles an 8-1 advantage, in the top of the sixth.

SJC conceded a run in the bottom of the seventh, but held the Dolphins scoreless in the eighth.

Campanelli padded the lead in the top of the ninth, with a sacrifice fly to drive in Doria for the 10-2 advantage.

CMSV pushed a run across the board in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough as SJC took the first game 10-3 from the Dolphins.

 

Game 2

The Golden Eagles used a big inning, this time a six-run inning, to seal the twinbill sweep over CMSV.

SJC broke the scoreless bout in the top of the fifth inning, when Piscitelli ripped a two-out single to right field to score Raucci to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage.


The top of the sixth began with Burnett reaching safely and swiping second, Britt reached on an error, and Doria drove in Burnett with a single through the right side. Dennis McAllister followed with a single through the left side to score Britt, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead.

With one out and the bases loaded, Piscitelli launched his first grand-slam homerun over the right field fence to increase the Golden Eagles lead 7-0.


In the top of the seventh, SJC scored three runs –all with two outs –after a Crafa double, and a bases-clearing triple by Raucci sealed the 10-0 win for the two-game series sweep.

The Golden Eagles will take on USMMA in Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday, April 15 at noon.
