Baseball Sweeps Panthers to Claim Regular-Season Title

Purchase, NY| In its last two games of the season the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team swept Purchase College, 8-0, 8-3, to claim the Skyline Conference regular-season title. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 24-12 (15-3) and will host the Skyline Conference Baseball Championship starting on May 5-7. The Panthers finish the season 9-17 and 6-12 in conference play.

Game 1

SJC 8, PC 0

The Golden Eagles got the scoring started in the top of the first when Daniel Campanelli singled up the middle with the bases loaded to plate two Golden Eagles for the 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Tyler Crafa tripled to right center and later scored when Matt Burnett reached on an error.

Anthony Bonilla led off the top of the fifth with a double and moved to third after a successful sac bunt, next at-bat Paul Britt plated Bonilla with a sac fly to right got the 4-0 lead.

With runners on first and second in the sixth inning, Tyler Sanderson knocked in Piscitelli with a single to left field and Crafa would add an insurance run after reaching on an error to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored two more runs in the seventh courtesy of a Lou Doria double and a Campanelli sac fly to take the first game 8-0.

Burnett led the team with three hits while Campanelli's two RBI's were a game-high.

Nick Clemente received his fifth win of the season allowing three hits and striking out three batters in seven innings of work.

 

Game 2

SJC 8, PC 3

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead over Purchase and took home an 8-3 victory to earn the doubleheader sweep and the regular season title. SJC scored on a single by Tyler Crafa and Anthony Bonilla in the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the seventh inning on a walk by Campanelli, a single by Anthony Raucci, and a fielder's choice by Tyler Sanderson to seal the regular-season title with an 8-3 victory over the Panthers.

Josh Outsen earned the win tossing six innings, allowing three runs, six hits, striking out four, and walking one.

SJC collected 13 hits in the game with Raucci leading the Golden Eagles with three hits in three at bats. 

The Golden Eagles are slated to host the Skyline Championship from May 5-7, more information to follow.
