Farmingdale Takes Pair from Baseball on Sunday

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team was handed a pair of road defeats, 6-0, 2-0, by Farmingdale State in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The losses send the Golden Eagles to 12-13 overall on the year and 7-5 in conference play as the Rams improve to 17-9 (9-3 Skyline).

Farmingdale 6, SJC 0

Scoreless till the sixth inning, the Rams took the lead when Vincent Rice (3-for-4) doubled down the left field line and scored Ernie Geraci (2-for-4).

After doubling their lead in the seventh, the Rams exploded for four runs in the eighth to take a 6-0 lead and put the game out of SJC's reach.

Junior Tyler Costa (2-for-2) recorded half of St. Joseph's hits in the afternoon's opener.

Senior Nick Clemente (1-3) took the loss the Golden Eagles in an 11-hit, five-run outing. Sophomore Tyler Villez provided relief for Clemente in the eighth inning.

Farmingdale 2, SJC 0

St. Joseph's offensive struggles continued in game two and in the bottom of the fourth Rice (1-for-3) again broke the scoring open, this time with a solo homer to left field.

In the fifth, Geraci (1-for-3) doubled down the left field line and scored Brandon Ernest (0-for-2) to cap the afternoon's scoring.

Faring best at the plate for SJC was junior designated hitter Michael Ferrufino, who hit 2-for-3. Sophomore Tyler Sanderson (1-for-3) and senior Matthew Burnett (1-for-3) registered St. Joseph's two other hits in the contest.

Junior hurler Anthony Papa (1-2) tossed all six innings for the guests and struck out three batters while allowing one earned run.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 17 when they host New Jersey City University for a pair of seven-inning contests beginning at 4:00 pm.
