Baseball Starts Season with Win Over Lehman

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team opened 2019 with an 11-1 non-conference win over Lehman College at Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday evening.

SJC starts at 1-0 and the Lightning slide to 2-10.

The Golden Eagles were first on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Tyler Costa led off the game with a base hit through the left side and stole second to move into scoring position. An infield single by Tyler Crafa put runners on the corners to set up a sacrifice fly opportunity for Anthony Raucci. Later in the inning, a missed played ball in right off the bat of Tyler Sanderson allowed Crafa to score for an early 2-0 lead.

After a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third extended the SJC lead to 4-0, the Lightning got on the board in the top of the fourth courtesy of a Will Diaz sac fly. SJC answered in the bottom half of the inning when Raucci belted a two-RBI single to center.

The Golden Eagles added a run in the fifth and tacked on four more in the eighth to cap the scoring and bring the game to its final 11-1.

St. Joseph's sent seven Golden Eagles to the mound with Ryan Foran earning the win allowing just one hit with a strikeout in two innings of work.

Crafa finished 4-for-4 on the day with three stolen bases and two runs scored. Jesse Nakashian went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Costa and Raucci provided two hits apiece.

The Golden Eagles head south to Ft. Meyers, Fla. to compete in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic and take on Lasell College on Friday, March 15 at 3:00 pm.
