Baseball Falls Short to Kean, 4-3

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to Kean University 4-3 at Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 14-15 on the season as the Cougars improve to 21-11.

SJC trailed Kean 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Anthony Raucci and Daniel Campanelli started the inning with back-to-back walks and three batters later Gehrig Montoro earned the third walk of the inning to load the bases with one out. Tyler Costa was then hit by a pitch forcing Raucci in and moved the score to 3-1.

An inning later, Tyler Sanderson sent a leadoff double to right and came around to score on a two-out single to center off the bat of Campanelli to inch the Golden Eagles to within one, 3-2.

St. Joseph's caught up to the Cougars in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of an RBI triple down the right field line by Costa.

After a scoreless eighth, Kean's Mike Perone's one-out double to right knocked in Zach Joe for the go-ahead run.

Kean reliever RJ Jobin stranded a couple SJC baserunners in the bottom half of the ninth to pick up his third win of the season. SJC's Justin Fitzpatrick was tagged with the loss allowing one run in two hits out of the bullpen.

St. Joseph's was led by Campanelli at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI. Costa and Sanderson pitched in with two hits apiece.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline Conference play Wednesday, April 17 when they travel to face Mt. St. Mary College for a doubleheader slated for 12:00 and 3:00 PM.
