Baseball Earns Skyline Split with MSMC

Poughkeepsie, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team earned a Skyline Conference split with Mt. St. Mary College on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles dropped game one 6-5 in an extra inning thriller before bouncing back to take game two 10-1.

SJC moved to 15-16 on the season with a 7-9 conference mark. The Knights now sit at 12-14 overall, 6-8 Skyline.

SJC 5, MSMC 6

After both teams plated a run in the six, the two sides saw themselves locked in a 4-4 stalemate heading into the ninth. SJC's Anthony Raucci led off the inning with a walk and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Daniel Campanelli. MSMC's Alexander Maher retired the next two hitters ending the threat.

St. Joseph's reliever Anthony Caminiti pitched around a couple singles in the bottom half of the ninth sending the game into extra innings.

Both sides put up zeros over the next two innings before the Golden Eagles broke through in the top of the 12th. Gehrig Montoro started the inning with a single through left side and two batters later Tyler Crafa singled through the right side to put runners on corners with one out. Tyler Sanderson pulled a groundball to the left side allowing Montoro to score putting SJC ahead 5-4.

The Knights pushed two unearned runs in the bottom of the 12th to claim the 6-5 win.

The Golden Eagles finished with 14 hits with Tyler Costa, Crafa, Jesse Nakashian, and Raucci all providing two hits apiece.

SJC's Caminiti suffered the loss allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of relief. Starter Anthony Papa allowed four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

MSMC's Nick Zestanakis picked up the win surrendering just one run on three hits in 2.1 innings of relief.

SJC 10, MSMC 1

The Golden Eagles set the tone early in game two with three runs in the top of the first inning.

St. Joseph's sent seven Golden Eagles to the plate in the top of the fourth for another three runs pushing the lead to 6-0.

The top of the sixth saw SJC string together four hits and take advantage of a costly MSMC defensive miscue to produce four more runs to widen the gap to 10-0.

The Knights pushed across an unearned run in the bottom half of the seventh, but SJC's Kevin Czeczotka was able to get Braden Perry to ground into a fielder's choice for the final out and secure the 10-1 win.

SJC's Nakashian was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Costa, Sanderson and Justin Stromski all finished with two hits.

Czeczotka went the distance allowing one unearned run on five hits with six strikeouts. MSMC's Matt Barbieri was credited with the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings.

The Golden Eagles continue Skyline Conference play on Saturday, April 20 when they travel to SUNY Purchase for a double header slated for 12:00 PM.
