Baseball Sweeps NJCU on Senior Night

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team earned a non-conference sweep over New Jersey City University at Gregg Alfano Field on Senior Night. The Golden Eagles took game one 3-1 before picking up a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

St. Joseph's improves to 20-16 on the season as the Gothic Knights fall to 14-20.

NJCU 1, SJC 3

Both sides put up a run in the first inning and after a scoreless second and third, the Golden Eagles broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Jesse Nakashian legged out an infield hit to start the inning and Anthony Raucci followed with a double down the left field line to put both runners in scoring position. Daniel Campanelli sent a sacrifice fly out to right allowing Nakashian to score and Raucci scampered home on a wild pitch.

The Gothic Knights were held to just three hits over the final three innings as the Golden Eagles went on to claim the 3-1 victory.

St. Joseph's sent seven pitchers in to the mound with Austin Turner picking up his third win of the season.

NJCU 2, SJC 9

Leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the third, the Golden Eagles batted around four six runs highlighted by a pair of two-RBI doubles to left from Michael Ferrufino and Tyler Crafa.  Raucci and Gehrig Montoro also provided RBI hits in the inning as SJC moved the score to 8-1.

The Golden Eagles tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth and a wild pitch in the top of the seventh allowed for NJCU's Miguel Valentin to score capping the game at 9-2.

Crafa went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Ferrufino finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.

The Golden Eagles open up postseason play as the #5 seed in the Skyline Conference Tournament and will travel to take on fourth-seeded SUNY Maritime Wednesday, May 1. First pitch is slated for 7:30 PM.
