Eagles Drop Skyline Opener to Mt. St. Vincent

Riverdale, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College men's basketball team (1-3, Skyline 0-1) fell to Mount Saint Vincent (2-3, Skyline 1-1), 83-66, snapping a 14 game winning streak over the Dolphins. The last time the Eagles started the season 1-3 was back in the 2004-05 season where they finished 10-15.

It was a close game throughout the whole first half, with the largest lead being only nine points. The Eagles got to their biggest lead of the half off a layup by Keith Anderson (Central Islip, N.Y. / North Babylon) with 10:41 left on the clock. A 16-4 run by Mount Saint Vincent in five minutes gave the Dolphins a seven-point lead.  Turnover troubles plagued the Golden Eagles in the first half and allowed the home team to go into the locker room up, 38-32.

Anderson and sophomore guard Evan Mohammed (Bayside, N.Y. / Holy Cross) combined to score 28 of St. Joseph's 32 first half points, 18 and 10 respectively. Anderson finished the game with 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Mohammed ended up with 12 points. Sean McCarthy (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) added 11 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

The turnover troubles (11) continued in the second half for St. Joseph's as they ended up with 27 for the game. However, St. Joseph's managed to get within a point off a layup from Anderson with 9:20 left in the game. James Zuccaro's layup capped a 15-3 run to give Mount Saint Vincent's a 13-point lead. The Dolphins never looked back from that point and cruised to the victory.

The next game for the Golden Eagles is December 4, on the road against Skyline-foe Sage (3-2, Skyline 0-1). St. Joseph's swept the season series last year with victories of 75-64 and 90-77.
