Charles Dominates as Eagles Top Maritime, 67-52

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles (5-14, 4-8 SKY) brought the heat on Tuesday night in their 67-52 victory over the Maritime Privateers (3-17, 1-12 SKY).  Darryl Charles (Middletown, NY / Poughkeepsie) was unstoppable with a game-high of 28 points and season-high 20 rebounds.

While the first half was essentially point-for-point, the Privateers secured a small advantage at the half, finishing 28-27, and gave the Eagles a reason to rally.  Accordingly, Cody Lohsen (Centereach, NY / Centereach) sunk a jumper ten seconds into the second half to regain the lead and get his team rolling. Ryan Reidy's (Sayville, NY / Connetquot) three-point jump shot with ten minutes left in the game was a turning point for the home team, who then began to break away from Privateers for good.  While both teams were in the red foul-wise toward the end of the game, the Eagles were superior in making their trips to the free throw line count, sinking 57.7% of their foul shot attempts. Andy Laurent's (Amityville, NY / Amityville) made jumper with three minutes left earned the Eagles a comfortable 11 point lead, upon which they would only continue to build until the final buzzer.

Charles' 28 points on the court was made even more impressive by his domination on the boards as he pulled down an incredible 20 rebounds and made three blocks. Laurent, who was lights out from the free throw line, sunk an impressive 13 points, grabbed three rebounds, two steals and dished out four assists. Reidy had nine points while Lohsen finished with a solid seven points and seven rebounds. This was the team's fourth Skyline Conference win of the season.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Troy, N.Y. to challenge conference rival Sage College on Saturday.
