Men's Basketball Lose Battle to Poly's Blue Jays

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles (5-6, 4-10 Skyline) were without their leading scorer on Tuesday night and the loss of Darryl Charles (Middletown, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) proved too much to overcome as the Eagles were defeated by NYU-Polytechnic (4-17, 2-12 Skyline), 81-61.

Wade Richardson (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague) got the Eagles off to a great start with five straight points in the first two minutes but those would be Richardson's last points of the night as he finished 1-of-7 from the field. The Fighting Blue Jays scored seven unanswered points to put the Eagles down 9-5 but Sean McCarthy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) hit a three-pointer to bring them back within one. The Golden Eagles led 12-9 at the 9:41 mark when they went ice cold offensively, enabling Poly to go on an 11-0 run. With just over a minute left in the half, a Jordan Kowalski (North Babylon, N.Y./Abilene, TX) three brought the Eagles within three and they finished the half down 30-26.

The Eagles were right back in the game to start the half but the Blue Jays caught fire shutting the SJC offense down, and outscoring their opponents 13-1 in the first three minutes of the second half. The Golden Eagles lacked consistency and were not able to put together a run to get back into the game. The Blue Jays led by as many as 27, putting the game out of reach for the Eagles who shot just 28% from the field and finished 4-of-31 from beyond-the-arc including 1-of-17 in the second half.

McCarthy led the Eagles with 12 points and nine boards and Andy Laurent (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville) chipped in with 11 points. Poly was willed to victory by Issac Neaves who finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds.

The Eagles will next host Yeshiva University in a key Skyline game, which could determine each team's playoff fate, Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
