Late-Game Push Sees Men’s Basketball Past Maritime

Patchogue, NY| Three players scored in double figures as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) used a late-game push to top SUNY Maritime, 66-60, in a home-opening, Skyline Conference victory on Tuesday evening.

Sophomore Frank Basile shot 6-11 from the field and tallied a team-best 16 points, powering an SJC offense that shot 50.0%.

Senior Isaiah Moore went for 15 points and six rebounds, and junior Christen Brown (6-for-9 FG) scored 14 points.

Maritime's Patrick McDonald tallied a game-best 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting.

After falling behind 21-15 9:15 into the contest, SJC compiled a 19-2 run to go up 34-23 with 1:58 left in the first half before taking a 36-29 lead into the break.

With 9:21 to play in regulation, Maritime took a 47-46 lead when Brennan Whelan finished off a layup, but St. Joseph's responded, outpacing the guests over the game's final minutes en route to a 66-60 victory.

Far superior from the field (50-0% to 37.9%) the Golden Eagles also held edges in three-point shooting percentage (47.6% to 18.8%) and points off turnovers (24-19).

Maritime was superior in the paint, where they out-scored SJC 34-28 and out-rebounded by a 39-28 margin.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 28 when they host Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference showdown at 7:00 pm. Follow the action live here.
