Cohen Shines in Men’s Basketball’s Conference Defeat to Farmingdale

Patchogue, NY| Senior Stephen Cohen scored a team-best 14 points in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team's 74-45 defeat to Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss the Golden Eagles slide to 2-11 (2-7 Skyline) on the year as the Rams improve to 9-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

Cohen's 14 points came on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. The guard was also credited with four rebounds and four steals.

Senior Jarred Marrow (3-for-7) contributed nine points and two assists, and sophomore Frank Basile (2-for-5) went for seven points.

Farmingdale's Matthew Graham (6-for 11) tallied a game-high 16 points.

Keeping pace with the Rams through most of the first half, SJC cut its deficit to three points (20-17) when Marrow sank a three-ball with 8:58 to play in the half but the Golden Eagles managed to score just nine more points before the halftime buzzer and entered the break down 18 points (44-26).

Shooting struggles continued for the hosts in the second, leading them to fall behind 35 points (71-36) with 5:45 remaining in regulation.

SJC would score nine of the contest's final 12 points but it was a 29-point difference (74-45) at the final buzzer.

Outshot from the field and from three, St. Joseph's only statistical advantage came via bench points where they outscored their opponent 31-24.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 16 when they head to Newburgh, NY to face Skyline rival Mount St. Mary College at 7:00 pm. Live stats for the contest will be available here.
