Men’s Basketball Ends Season with Loss on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| Senior Isaiah Moore scored a game-high 23 points in a Senior Day defeat to Skyline Conference rival Mount St. Mary College inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the defeat, the Golden Eagles finish their 2017-18 season with a 5-20 (5-15 Skyline) overall mark. The Knights improve to 13-12 and qualify for the conference championship tournament with a 12-7 Skyline record.

Moore's 23 points came on 8-for-22 shooting from the field and 6-for-12 shooting from beyond the arc. The guard was also credited with nine rebounds and two steals.

Seniors Stephen Cohen and Trey Kinard went for eight and seven points, respectively, and junior Jonah Caldwell grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds.

Mary's was paced by Andrew Holmes, who shot 6-for-12 from the field and scored 19 points.

In a game that saw seven lead changes, SJC jumped out in front, 6-5, early, but quickly fell behind and later entered the break down 10 points (39-29).

Clawing back, the Golden Eagles cut the deficit to three points (51-48) 5:50 into the second and soon after took a 54-52 lead when Moore drained a three-pointer.

Though their lead was brief, SJC again cut the deficit to one point (64-63) with 5:34 to play in regulation, but it was the closest the hosts came to retaking the lead, eventually succumbing to a 74-67 defeat.

Despite outrebounding the Knights, St. Joseph's was the second-best team from the field (42.1% to 36.1%) and beyond the arc (40.0% to 31.4%).

Among those wrapping up their collegiate careers on Saturday was Moore, who leaves the program sixth all-time in scoring (1,124) and eighth all-time in rebounding (455). Moore is only one of 14 players in program history to score over 1,000 points as a Golden Eagle.
