New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's basketball teams were selected to finish eighth and 11th, respectively, according to the Skyline Conference's 2018-19 preseason coaches polls released on the conference's website on Wednesday morning.
The women collected 23 points, 56 fewer than SUNY Old Westbury, who garnered 79 total points, eight first-place votes and was picked to finish first.
Head coach Vicki Andruskiewicz takes over a program that posted a 9-16 record (6-12 Skyline) last season and graduated all-time leading scorer Andrea Iavarone. SJC finished in eighth place and missed the playoffs.
The men totaled 14 points and finished last in their poll. Defending champion Yeshiva University earned 95 total points and six first-place votes and held slim margins over Farmingdale State in both categories (93 total points, five first-place votes).
Kevin Spann returns for his fifth season at the helm of the men's program and looks to rebound from a 5-20 season (5-15 Skyline) in 2017-18. He'll return junior Frank Basile and senior Mike Harris, who will headline the team's offense.
The women open their season on Saturday, November 10 when they visit Manhattanville College for a non-conference contest at 2:00 pm. The men get started at home on November 15 with a 7:00 pm match-up with non-conference foe York College.
