Slow Start Cripples Men’s Basketball in Loss to John Jay

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team took a 68-47 loss to John Jay College in a non-conference exchange inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 0-2 on the season as the Bloodhounds improve to 2-0.

Junior Frank Basile posted game-high points (15) and rebounds (11) totals and shot 6-for-13 from the field.

Sophomore Anthony Simpson, junior Doug Niblock and senior Matt Renahan all pitched in with six points apiece.

John Jay's Jerome Petty tallied 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting to pace the Bloodhounds.

A slow start saw the Golden Eagles fall behind early before entering the break down 24 points (40-16).

SJC outscored John Jay 31-28 in a more encouraging second half but at the buzzer, the hosts were defeated by a 21-point margin (68-47).

St. Joseph's outrebounded the Bloodhounds 40-34 in the contest but were outshot from the field (46.4% to 29.8%) and from three (33.3% to 22.7%).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 20 when they host SUNY Maritime for a Skyline Conference contest at 6:00 pm.
