Men’s Basketball Drops Skyline Contest to Purchase

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team scored four players in double-digits but dropped a 77-62 decision to Skyline Conference rival SUNY Purchase inside the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 2-8 overall on the year and 1-5 in Skyline play. The Panthers improve to 5-5 (3-3 Skyline).

Junior Frank Basile (6-for-13 FG) led the Golden Eagles' offense with a 17-point performance. Junior Brad Weiss contributed 13 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. The center was also credited with three blocks.

Senior Mike Harris (11 points) and freshman Mike Hirdt (10 points) also scored in double-digits.

Elijah Lott paced the guests with a game-high 22 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field.

Down 28-22 with 3:50 to play in the first half, SJC tallied 11 of the half's final 16 points to ensure the two sides entered the break tied at 33.

Purchase came out of halftime hot and built a 13-point lead (42-39) 4:30 into the second. The Panthers carried their early momentum to the final buzzer en route to a 77-62 victory.  

SJC struggled shooting from the field (43.6%) and from the charity stripe (50.0%) but was the better side from beyond the arc, boasting a 41.7% to 23.5% advantage over the guests.

The Golden Eagles look to end their six-game losing streak on Saturday, January 5 when they head to Bronxville, NY for a Skyline Conference contest with the College of Mount St. Vincent at 12:00 pm.
