Men’s Basketball Ends Skid with 80-67 Win at Mt. St. Vincent

Riverdale, NY| Junior Frank Basile scored a game-high 33 points as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with an 80-67 win at the College of Mount St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-8 overall on the year and 2-5 in Skyline Conference play as the Dolphins slip to 4-8 (3-4 Skyline).

Basile eclipsed the 30-point plateau for the second time this season and shot 9-for-17 from the field. The guard also grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds and notched his eighth double-double of the season.

Senior Mike Harris scored 18 points (8-for-15 FG) and sophomore Anthony Simpson contributed seven points (3-for-4 FG) off the bench. Junior Doug Niblock dished out a game-high five assists.

The Dolphins were paced by Raiquis Harris, who posted team-best totals of 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.

SJC jumped out to an early lead and took a commanding 27-11 lead 10:16 into the contest when Anthony Simpson drained a three-pointer.

The guests would roll into halftime with a 44-27 lead and later fought off CMSV advances that brought the game to within eight points (75-67). Niblock would cap of the afternoon's scoring with a free throw with 25 seconds to play as the Golden Eagles held on for an 80-67 victory.

SJC shot a season-high 56.9% from the field and held Mt. St. Vincent to a 35.1% field-goal percentage. The guests were also the superior team from three (45.8% to 28.0%), on the boards (41-37) and at the charity stripe (73.3% to 66.7%).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 8 when they visit St. Joseph's College (Brkln) for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:00 pm.
