Men’s Basketball Outpaced by Farmingdale on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team scored three players in double-digits but was defeated 97-72 by Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 4-10 on the year and 3-7 in Skyline play as the Rams improve to 10-6 (8-3 Skyline).

The SJC offense was paced by junior Frank Basile, who led all scorers with 21 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field. The guard also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.

Freshman Matthew Hirdt tallied 12 points (4-for-7 3FG) and junior Jonah Caldwell contributed a career-high 12 points off the bench.

George Riefenstahl and Matthew Graham powered the Rams' offense with 13 points apiece.

Down 46-25 at the break, SJC put forth a better effort in the second half, scoring 47 points to Farmingdale's 51, but it was a 25-point defeat at the final buzzer (97-72).

The Rams led by as many as 31 points and were the better team from the field (50.8% to 44.1%), on the boards (43 to 24) and off the bench (47 to 22).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 15 when they visit Mount St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference contest at 8:00 pm.
