Men’s Basketball Outpaced by Mt St. Mary on Tuesday

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a 71-50 decision to Mount St. Mary College in a road Skyline Conference contest on Tuesday evening.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 4-11 on the year and 3-8 in Skyline play as the Knights improve to 10-6 (7-4 Skyline).

Junior Frank Basile led the SJC offense with a game-high 21 points on 8-for-18 shooting from the field. The guard also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

Senior Mike Harris went for 10 points and three rebounds, and freshman Matthew Hirdt contributed six points and six rebounds. Junior Brad Weiss grabbed five rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists.

The Knights were paced by Paul Sienke, who scored 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field. Ethan Fox and Connor Bacci each grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

SJC led early, 6-4, but squandered the advantage and entered the break down 22 points (42-20).

Hot early in the second, the Golden Eagles opened the frame with a 13-1 run that cut their deficit to eight points (43-35) with 14 minutes to play, but the Knights responded and restablished their double-digit lead before earning a 71-50 victory.

SJC grabbed 32 rebounds in the contest but were outscored 34-14 in the paint. The Knights were also the better team from the field (46.8% to 37.3%) and from beyond the arc (46.7% to 39.1%).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 19 when they visit Trinity College for a 3:00 pm non-conference contest.
