Hartford, CT| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team was defeated by Trinity College, 92-38, in a non-conference road contest on Saturday afternoon.
The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 4-12 on the year as the Bantams improve to 13-5.
A hamstrung SJC offense was led by junior Doug Niblock, who shot 5-for-13 from the field and scored a career-best 11 points.
Freshman Matthew Hirdt sank two of six three pointers and contributed 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Seniors Mike Harris and Matt Renahan scored six and five points, respectively.
The Bantams turned to Connor Merinder, who shot 8-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from three for a game-high 21 points.
The Golden Eagles took a 4-3 lead 1:23 into the contest but it would be the only lead they would hold in the game. Trinity blew the game wide open, taking a 26-9 lead with 6:02 to play in the first before leading 45-14 at the break.
It was more of the same in the second as the Bantams led by as many as 54 points en route to a 92-38 victory.
SJC shot just 24.2% from the field and was bested by Trinity, which boasted a 61.3% shooting percentage. The Bantams also dominated the paint where they outrebounded (47-22) and outscored (34-8) the guests.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 22 when they visit SUNY Maritime for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:00 pm.
