Men’s Basketball Falls Short at SUNY Purchase

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team was handed a 77-62 road defeat by SUNY Purchase on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference contest.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 5-18 overall on the year and 4-14 in Skyline play as the Panthers improve to 13-10 (11-7 Skyline).

Junior Doug Niblock paced the SJC offense with 14 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field. The guard also dished out a team-high four assists and pulled down three rebounds.

Junior Brad Weiss went for 13 points and a team-best 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, and junior Frank Basile scored 12 points and was credited with three steals.

The Panthers were led by Willie Britton, who tallied 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field.

SJC never led in the contest and trailed by as many as 18 points. Facing a 11-point deficit at halftime (42-31), the Golden Eagles stumbled at the start of the second half and never recovered, eventually succumbing to a 77-62 defeat.

The guests were the better team in the paint, where they outscored (15-10) and outrebounded (43-39) Purchase, but struggled shooting from both the field (31.3%) and from three (20.0%).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, February 12 when they host Mount St. Mary College for Senior Day at 5:30 pm.
