Men's Basketball Takes Non-Conference Loss at John Jay

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team was handed a 74-63 non-conference defeat by John Jay College on Tuesday, sending them to 2-2 overall on the year.

The SJC offense was headlined by senior Frank Basile, who led the team in points (21), rebounds (7) and steals (2). Senior Doug Niblock pitched in with 13 points (6-for-11 FG) and a game-high five assists.

Sophomore Michael Darby shot 5-for-8 from the field and tallied 11 points, and senior Jonah Caldell contributed eight points and four rebounds.

SJC held early 4-0 and 8-6 leads but fell behind 23-8 late with 6:02 to play in the first half.

At the break it was a 15-point lead for the hosts (35-20), and despite the fact that SJC would outscore the Bloodhounds in the second half, the SJC deficit at the final buzzer was 11 points (74-63).

John Jay was the better shooting team from the floor (50.0% to 42.1%) and outrebounded (38-29) the Golden Eagles in the contest. SJC failed to generate bench scoring and was outscored 27-5 in the category.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, December 6 when they host Connecicut College for a 6:00 pm non-conference contest.
