Men's Basketball Tops McDaniel in Coaches vs. Cancer Consolation Game

Bronx, NY| Three Golden Eagles scored three players in double digits as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team secured a 79-59 victory over McDaniel in the consolation game of the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer tournament at Lehman College on Sunday aftrernoon.

The win sees the Golden Eagles imrprove to 4-4 overall on the year as the Green Terror drop to 4-6.

Pacing SJC was senior Frank Basile, who led all scorers with 31 points on 13-for-18 shooting from the field. The guard also grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds for his second-straight double-double and his fourth of the year. Basile was the only Golden Eagle to appear on the All-Tournament Team.

Senior Doug Niblock shot 8-for-13 from the floor and tallied 17 points, and senior Jonah Caldwell contributed 11 points (4-for-5 FG) and seven rebounds.

McDaniel was led by Mike Wallace, who scored 14 points and dished out three assists.

In a game that was tied only twice and featured just one lead change, SJC took a 13-11 lead 6:18 into regulation and ran away into the break with a 22-point advantage (48-26). SJC kept McDaniel at arm's length in the second half and cruised to a 59-59 victory.

St. Joseph's was the better shooting team from the floor (55.2%-44.6%) and from beyond the arc (44.4%-29.4%). Additionally, SJC generated more points off the bench (17-7) and grabbed 34 rebounds to McDaniel's 27.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 4 when they visit William Paterson for a non-conference contest at 1:00 pm.
