Men's Basketball Falls Short in Saturday Loss to Mt. St. Vincent

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped an 81-67 decision to the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference contest inside the Danzi Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in Skyline Conference play as the Dolphins move to 4-7 and 1-1.

Senior Doug Niblock led SJC with a career- and game-best 24 points on 9-for-18 shooting from the field. The guard also dished out a game-high five assists. 

Senior Frank Basile posted a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Michael Darby contributed eight points off the bench (3-for-4 FG) and senior Jonah Caldwell went for seven points (2-for-3 FG).

Mt. St. Vincent was paced by Mamadou Mariko, who was a 9-for-12 shooter from the field and tallied 20 total points.

St. Joseph's was behind for most of the first half but took a 29-27 lead with 5:24 remaining in the first half when sophomore Matthew Lavin sank a jumper.

Mt. St. Vincent went back ahead one minute later (31-29), expanded its lead and took a 12-point advantage into halftime (44-32).

In the second, SJC would bring the deficit back to within 10 points on a number of occasions but in the end, was outpaced and succumbed to an 81-67 defeat.

St. Joseph's struggled from the field, shooting just 38.1% in comparison to CMSV's 50.0%. SJC held a slim 14-12 advantage in bench points.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 14 when they host St. Joseph's College (Brkln) for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:30 pm.
