AJ Uhl Named Men's Basketball Head Coach

Patchogue, NY| St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) Director of Athletics Melody Cope announced on Tuesday the appointment of AJ Uhl as the new men's basketball head coach.

"I am honored and humbled to serve as the next Head Men's Basketball Coach at St. Joseph's University. I'd like to thank Mel Cope and the rest of the search committee for the extraordinary opportunity," stated Uhl. "I'm excited to immerse myself in the Golden Eagle community, build on the strong foundation that is in place, and for the chance to support our student-athletes throughout their college experience."

Uhl arrives in Patchogue after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Waynesburg University where he was responsible for all recruiting of prospective student-athletes. During his tenure, the Yellow Jackets posted its best season since 2015 while reaching the PAC Tournament Semifinals.

"We are excited to welcome AJ to the St. Joseph's family," stated Cope. "It was evident throughout the interview process that AJ shares our vision and values for the men's basketball program, and we look forward to him continuing to build upon the recent success of the program."

Prior to Waynesburg, Uhl had stints at Cal Lutheran University (2017-19) and Centenary University (2016-17) both as an assistant coach.

No stranger to the Skyline Conference, Uhl graduated from Mt. St. Mary College in 2014 with a B.S. in Communications and Journalism. As a member of the Knights, he was part of a 2012 team that won the ECAC Championship and led the team in three-point shooting percentage during the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons.

A Long Island native, he graduated from Comsewogue High School where he was a four-year varsity player and a 1,000-point scorer en route to becoming an All-Section XI selection.
