Golf Finishes Sixth at Windy Skidmore Invitational

Queensbury, N.Y. - The men's golf team played the Skidmore Palamountain Invitational held this past weekend.  The team did well, albeit not their best.

The weather conditions on Saturday were incredibly brutal and certainly not conducive to better golf performance as the temperatures were in the 35-42 range, with intermittent showers accompanied by winds in excess of 20 mph and gusting over 30 mph.

Though conditions were the same for all teams competing, the inexperience of the four freshmen - Christian Bleck, Robbie Bray, Zac Campanelli, and first year player-Brian Daponte - was evident.  "They certainly learned much from this experience and will reap the benefits of those experiences in future tournaments," said head coach George Cangero.

The winds and the sores subsided on Sunday, although temps remained in the lower 40's.  The Eagles bounced back on day two with a very respectable score of 317 to move from Saturday's 9th place standing to an overall 6th place finish.  The team's two-day scoring was 665 (348 + 317).

St. Joseph's number one player, Christian Bleck, shot 159 (85-73), which was good for a T-21 finish.  Bleck's second day score of one over par 73 was tied for third on day two.   Robbie Bray & Brian Daponte each shot 165 (85-80) for a T-28 finish; while Zac Campanelli shot 174 (92-82) placing T-35.

The team's next competition will be this Thursday & Friday, April 25 & 26 at the Long Island Intercollegiate Championship hosted by St Joseph's College at Island Hills CC in Sayville, N.Y.
