Men's Golf Takes Second at SJC Invitational

Sayville, N.Y. - In Wednesday's St. Joseph's College Golden Eagle Invitational, on a very heavyhearted day, the men's golf team took on a slew of competitors from Farmingdale State College, Mt. St. Mary's College, Yeshiva University, and Purchase College.  Finishing second on the day, the Golden Eagles have shown significant improvement from the season opener on September 6.

The Golden Eagles finished second with a total score of 326.  Sophomore John Melandro (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) finished one shot over par 72, a SJC-team best of the day.  Yesterday's outing was his second straight invitational with a team best score.

The team's captain, senior Sean Sanders (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) also chimed in with a low score of a 76 in the individual's section of the tournament.  Sanders beat his competitors as much 21 shots through yesterday's spiraling wind.  It was an impressive performance by all participants, given the unfavorable weather conditions.

The Farmingdale State College Rams finished with the lowest overall team score of 293, marking their second invitational win of the year.  Narrowly beating Melandro was Farmingdale State's Matt Adwar.  Posting a fantastic one under par score of 70, Adwar beat out SJC's Melandro by just a mere two strokes for the overall medalist.

Sanders, Melandro, and the Golden Eagle men's golf team look to continue their progression through the season.  They will be heading to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for a weekend outing in the Penn State-Harrisburg Fall 2014 Invitational.
