Melandro Takes Second at FSC Invitational to Cap Successful Season for Golf Team

Bethpage, N.Y. - Despite frigid and windy conditions, St. Joseph's men's golf drove past their opponents to place third in their final tournament of the 2014-15 season in the two-day Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational at the Bethpage State Park Red Course.

St. Joseph's saw the majority of their success during day one, as the team shot 309 to place second. Day one's efficient shooting was led by Golden Eagles John Melandro (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) (74), Robert Bray (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River) (75) and Zac Campanelli (Bayport, N.Y./ Bayport-Blue Point) (77).

As conditions worsened on the second day, so did SJC's play, scoring 323 to finish third in the tournament behind Farmingdale and Dowling College.

Melandro added another effective performance on day two, posting a score of 75 to place second overall behind Farmingdale's Micheal Adwar. The sophomore had a tremendous stretch during his final three holes, birdying twice to tie Adwar, who would eventually beat him in a playoff hole.

With their last tournament completed, St. Joseph's head coach and Skyline Coach of the Year recipient, George Cangero, is rewarded by the team's accomplishments for the 2014-15 season.

"I am so proud of what this team has accomplished this year.  Who they are and what they have accomplished is truly a reflection of the tradition and foundation upon which the program has been based and thrived for the past 13 years," Cangero said.
