Men’s Lacrosse Tops Purchase, Awaits Playoff Fortunes

Purchase, NY| Zak Jones, Chris Nielsen and Matt Prokesch each recorded five points apiece in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team's 12-2 victory over Skyline Conference opponent SUNY Purchase on Monday evening.

The win ensures the Golden Eagles wrap their regular season with a 7-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play. SJC's playoff fortunes rest in the hands of Farmingdale State and SUNY Maritime, which both wrap their seasons on Saturday. Favorable results could see St. Joseph's qualify for the conference championship as the third or fourth seed.

Jones, Nielsen and Prokesch all tallied three goals and two assists in the contest. The trio combined for 21 shots on goal.

Keeper Adam Sivon (7-6) made 10 saves on 12 shots, and Tommy Johnson caused three turnovers and scooped up four ground balls.

Held to only one goal in the first, SJC exploded for five tallies in the second quarter to enter the break with a 6-0 lead.

A pair of Prokesch goals 3:00 into the third extended SJC's lead to eight goals, and after Purchase found the back of the net twice later in the frame, St. Joseph's went for four goals in the fourth to earn the 12-2 victory.

The Golden Eagles dominated from start to finish and held advantages in nearly all statistical categories, including shots (45-21), faceoff wins (11-5), clears (18-13) and ground balls (21-12).
